Champion ImageThe Chester School Board was pleased to appoint Mr. Champion, as the Director of Student Affairs for Chester Academy. Zachary comes to us with a wealth of experience: working on Target and SST teams helping to provide data driven interventions and supports for students as well as the 504 plan process, developing accommodations, and assisting educators with interpreting 504 plans. He most recently worked in the Timberlane Regional School District in the role of School Counselor as well as acting as their Athletic Coordinator. He also has worked as Summer Discovery Lead Teacher, working with students who have both emotional and academic disabilities, providing him with a wide range of experience with various young people. He is a graduate of Rivier University, the University Of New Hampshire and Northern Essex Community College.

He will begin work in Chester during August, 2021. Zachary will succeed Ms. Lauren Mercier, who will be leaving her position at the end of the school year after four years with the Chester School District in this role. Zachary will be working directly with our two School Counselors (Susan Buck and Chelsea Hanninen).

The Board would like to express their gratitude to Ms. Mercier for all that she has accomplished as the first appointee in this role at Chester Academy. Lauren’s extraordinary efforts to support both the children and families in our community were invaluable during her tenure with us. We wish her well in the next phase of her career.

The Board unanimously supported the selection and hiring of Mr. Champion and is looking forward to working with him as our new Director of Student Affairs and to take advantage of his innovative and student-centric approach to education and support of our students.
