This fall, all Chester Academy students in grade 1 through 8 will be taking the iReady diagnostic assessment in both reading and mathematics. We typically take this assessment three times per year and use the data to determine how best to tailor our instruction to capitalize on the strengths of our students as well as to support their learning needs. This year, because the last six months have been so atypical, the iReady is an especially important tool.

Students who are attending school in person will take the iReady with their class. Students who are attending via telepresence will be taking the iReady at home, but will be supported by Chester Academy personnel via Google Meet. Your child’s teacher will provide your child with a schedule in their Google Classroom and teach your child how to access the assessment.

We ask that you review the resources below to learn a little more about iReady, how it works, why we do it, and how to support your child. If you have questions about this fall’s iReady administration, please contact your child’s teacher or Dr. Gaffney at gaffneya@chesteracademy.org.

Keep in Mind
  • Students will be supported by school staff while taking the diagnostic assessment. If they are participating from home, they will also be in a Google Meet with their teacher.
  • The iReady is not timed and students will advance at their own pace. Students may work for up to 30 minutes at a time, depending on grade level, and may do this up to 4 times per day.
  • Students work best when they have had a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast, snacks, and lunch.
  • Students should only use paper, pencil, and the tools provided within the iReady diagnostic assessment platform. No other tools will be needed.
  • Students will be prompted to watch videos about each tool that is available for their use. They must click on every tool before they start the assessment.
  • Every student should wear headphones while taking the assessment to help with focus and to ensure they are not disturbing others while working.
  • Take a look at the resources below for more information about iReady and why we do it.
