Grade 7 students participated in a multidisciplinary unit leading to the creation of windmills in science class.

In geography, students studied the history and current events of Africa.

In ELA, students read the novel "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" by William Kamkwamba - a true story about a boy who grew up in Africa. In the story, he learns about electrical engineering and energy production.

In science, students put their own engineering and design skills to the test. They built windmills scaled down from their actual size and then tested different blade designs to see how many pennies their windmill could lift. In these pictures you can see students testing their windmills in the classroom.

Fun Fact: The theatrical adaptation of the novel "The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind" was released 3 years ago today!
