Extra-Curricular Activities

Extra Curricular Activities include school sponsored clubs and programs that take place after school hours. Descriptions of the activities offered, and information on who to contact with questions can be found below. This page is typically updated byt he end of September each year to reflect new or updated offerings. 

Late Bus - The late Bus runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays and will depart Chester Academy at 4:15PM. Students involved in after school activities taking place on those days may take the late bus with a completed Late Bus Form.

Art Club - Both grade 5/6 and 7/8 Art Clubs will meet on Thursdays from 3:00-4:15. Projects will include: clay, acrylic painting, Holiday crafts, jewelry making and duct tape creations. Students may join at any time during the year, so long as they have a permission slip. Please contact Lee Johnson for more information. 

STEM Club

Chester Junior Honor Society - Students in grades six through eight are offered the opportunity to participate in Chester Junior Honor Society annually. Students are invited to join based on criteria and recommendations. Click [HERE] to learn more.

Creative Writing Club -In creative writing club students complete prompts and activities to improve their understanding of narrative writing. Students share progress on their own projects, and discuss master techniques to apply to their own writing. Please contact Robin Small for more information. 

Fifth Grade Band - Available to 5th graders at Chester Academy, students in 5th Grade Band work on learning either flute, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, trombone or percussion. Students come in twice a week: one morning to work on playing as a full band and a different morning in a smaller instrument group to learn specific techniques. Destination Imagination/Rising Stars- Destination Imagination is a hands-on program for kids to work through academic challenges in the fields of STEM, Fine Arts, and Service Learning. DI Elementary is for grades 3-5 and DI Middle Level is for grades 6-8. DI Rising Stars is a noncompetitive Destination Imagination level for grades K-2.

Drama- Fall Club - Chester Academy's Drama Club is a fun learning opportunity to explore various aspects of the theater. Activities include theater games, improvisation, performing skits, and learning about different theater techniques. Drama club is open to students in grades 4-8 and meets weekly in the fall. The Drama club will begin meeting again after the spring musical. Please contact Mike vonOeyen or Laura Green for more information. 

Drama - Spring Musical - The Spring Musical is the major dramatic production of the year at Chester Academy and involves students of all grades in putting the show together. Students in grades 4-8 can audition for roles and participate in stage crew while students in grades 1-3 can participate as members of special ensembles. Homework Help - Students in grades 5-8 may sign-up to attend a teacher-supervised after school Homework Help Space on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students (or their parents) may click here to complete a Homework Help Application form. Similarly, students in grades 1-4 may sign up for Power Hour homework help (also meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays). Parents may contact Joanne Passanisi to sign their students up for Power Hour. 

Jazz Band - Jazz Band Meets Thursday Mornings at 7:30. Students rehearse and perform jazz and rock tunes at school concerts, and feature regular band wind instruments as well as a drum set, piano, and bass guitar. Please contact Mike vonOeyen for more information.

Math Counts -Math Counts is a competition series the provides students the opportunity to compete in live math contests against and alongside their peers. This program is open to all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Please contact Ron Lubatti for more information. 

Robotics Club - Activities may include coding, lego robotics, etc. Club members will participate in the annual CRCC Coding Challenge. Please contact Robin Small for more information. 

Student Council - The Student Council is open to students in grades 5 - 8 and meets one Monday per month after school. Student Council promotes leadership, communication, and service projects within the student population.

YMCA -The YMCA is offering an after school program at Chester Academy. Two day, three day and five day options are available for the 2019 - 2020 school year. Ski Club - Ski Club meets every Wednesday for 5 weeks starting January 8th. Students are dismissed from school at 12:30pm and return from Pat's Peak in Henniker NH at approximately 6:30pm. Ski Club is open to grades 3-8. Please contact Marilyn Mitchell for more information.

Yearbook - Yearbook meets every Thursday after school until 4:30pm and is open to students in grades 6-8. Students will be involved with many activities related to the creation of the 2019-2020 yearbook. Please contact Tracey Farrenkopf or Karen Lacroix for more information. 

Girls on the Run -Girls on the Run is an outdoor program with the objective of getting girls active while also focusing on social/emotional learning and female empowerment. The program is available for female students in grades 3-5 and meets twice a week from 3:00pm-4:30pm. More information about this program can be found at girlsontheerunnh.org.
